Dhoom macha le !!

No this is not a review about Dhoom or Dhoom 2. If a web crawler finds this post I'm gonna count myself lucky (hee hee (short for snickering)) (Excuse my nested brackets - u see I'm a bygone developer). Just thought I'll record my going to watch Dhoom 2 yesterday along with the office crowd. Verdict : First half was real cool. Second half - my coffee + popcorn was much better :-))

Of course this post is to record more "Rohanams" :

- "Sabji keke mandi, sabji keke mandi" - Adapted by Rohan from the Masoom song "Lakdi ki kaati ...". There's a antara in that which goes "Ghoda pahuncha mandi etc."
- "Ba pa pa pa paaa" - sung with the tongue between the lips. Difficult to explain what this is (what else). Actually he copied this from his erstwhile friend Ria upstairs when he was just about getting to make friends on being crowned as 2 yrs old. Forgot to document this one for a long time.
- "Aey appa kon appa" - don't know where he got this one from. But sounded really heartwarming. Now he does'nt say it coz I started imitating him and he stopped naturally.

More to come later ... (as usual).

Rohanisms - Part ??

More "Rohanisms" -
- "Baki Baki Looka palli" - don't ask me what it means !! He used to say this when he was between 3 and 4 yrs old.

Before I go on to chronicle more such Rohanisms I thought I should mention that the sure shot way of getting Rohan to stop saying (or singing) these was to imitate him and lo and behold - he'd stop !! Only catch was myself (or Suja) used to end up catching these. Examples :

- "Isi isi isi money koney hey, isi money isi money money koney hay". Wonder which language this is. And God knows where he caught it from. Anyway its history now, courtesy my "Tip of the Day" given above.
- "Kudi Kumar kudi Kumar, Pasarooo" - this is Rohan speak for the song "Pretty Woman Kuch Kaho na" from Kal Ho Na Ho (a SRK hit).

Planet Rohan

The title of this post is borrowed from the Planet M chain of stores for those musically inclined. Like Music World for eg.

This post is all about Rohan's favorite songs. It all started with Kabhi Nahi (the Amitabh-Adnan Sami sung medley). Attached is a pic I took while Rohan was watching it intently (this was quite awhile ago - maybe when he was 2-3 yrs old).

We also used (or rather had to) to sing to Rohan to get him to sleep. His favorites :

- Gaadi bula rahi hai (sung originally by Kishore Kumar). My pop used to sing this to him when my parents were here with us. He used to sleep off very quickly on hearing my father's slow and deep voiced singing. Genetically inclined I guess (I used to sleep off too :-)) Later Rohan graduated to calling it "gubaali" to indicate he wants it. Now he sings "gaadi bulaaa rahi hayyy".
- Sau baar janam lenge (sung originally by Mohd Rafi). Worked like magic initially due to its slow tune. Suja later changed the tune and the magic wore off ;-) Just kidding.
- Tere mere Sapne (from Guide sung originally by Mohd. Rafi) - Rohan calls this "sapne". Once a lil' older he used to sing it as "sapne ab ek ang hayy".
- Mera jeevan kora kagaz (sung orig. by Kishore Kumar) - this was another magic recipe. Rohan picked this one up very quickly - he used to sing it as "kolasa meelasa, kolasa meelasa".

Some other magic recipe songs were (those that could be sung only by me :-))
- Ay mere pyare watan (sung originally by Manna Dey for Upkar I think). The melancholy tune and slow pace is sure way to get anyone to sleep.
- Ek akela is shahar mein (sung orig. by Bhupinder in Gharaonda)

Adios
Idleez.

More Rohanisms

Rohan is now 4 yrs and 1 month old. Sigh ... how time flies. I'm discovering that I'm forgetting all his earlier Rohanisms - my mind space is more occupado with office and work related stuff. Moreover Rohan is not saying things the way he used to - meaning he's getting better at speaking out.

So before I forget and have to "fight" to remember those wonderfully lisped words/sentences/actions he used to do here goes :

- Coco - He used to say this when we first saw the Coke ad. So instead of saying "Coca Cola" he used to "Coco". Very cute.
- "Sleep, ka-ka" - This was an oft repeated phrase and was used by Rohan in the following situations :
- when he was down with fever and was scared to take the medicine.
- when he was scared of Suja who was at her menacing best
- when he was scared of going into the swimming pool or beach.
- "Kaakum" - I'm sure no one will be able to figure out what this means. But he used to lisp this to say "Thank you" !!
- "Ambili mama, va-va". This was taught to him when he was barely a year old and we tried to feed him dinner using this technique. Though it didnt work any wonders, the phrase stuck. Earlier my BIL Ramesh had bought a baby soother - if you switch it on it projects a night sky with stars and the moon. He used to call it "va-va" and always wanted it when I used to come back from work. So we used to spend quite a bit of time in the "children's room" switching off the light and watching the artificial night sky :-)) However he would'nt keep quite though. He would keep switching the music and taking the power plug out of the socket and other such antics which kept me on tenterhooks as usual.

The "Blue" car

Rohan refers to my car (a sturdy ol' Santro - yes its *really* the old Santro model - Santro "DL") as "Blue" car - the real color is steel gray. Wonder where he got it from - his grandpa I guess. Whatever ....!!

And now onto his various behavioral aspects and some memories inside the blue car :

- When I first used to take him to playschool (Eurokids, Indira Nagar) - he used to love the car. Methinks he used to go to school so he could go inside the blue car. He used to sit at the backseat in the center with his hands holding the back of the bucket seats. Beats having a seatbelt. But once in, he used to be just mesmererized by the way the car was being manouvered around and of course the various sights shown through the windshield. It was in this mode that I taught him to say if someone asks him "What's your name" to say "Rohan". Also "Whats your Father's name" - he used to say "Adoon". "What's your mummy's name" - "Sujataa".
- He still sits the same way. Although now he's bigger and sometimes watches the traffic behind from the rear windshield. And goes to sleep on the speaker panel sometimes.

Banana-na Banana-na

The title is Rohan-speak at 2 yrs 7 odd months. He learnt this at playschool (Eurokids) and used to repeat this really chweetily ... (sigh). Now he refuses to say it if asked to ... But the way he used to say it was as follows (in instruction style) :

- cup your left hand
- make an action as though you're picking up 5-10 grains of rice from the left hand, with your right hand and you're putting them in your mouth
- at the same time keep saying "Banana-na Banana-na, jes now ... Banana-na Banana-na, jes now"

Note (Jes now = Just now)

The picture on the right was taken in Janmashtami 2003. Suja dressed him up like "Krishnar" !! (Tamil speak for Lord Krishna)

Rohan's "Ippi"

Here begins the gargantuan task of catching up with Rohan's doings over the past 3.5 yrs. Let's begin with one of his favorite activities - the "ippi". Intrigued ?? That's baby talk for "doing ipdi" (in Tamil). Huh ?? Whatzat mean ? Okay ok ... it just means he is asking you to lie down on the 2-seater sofa that we have in the living room. What does that mean to him - you might wonder ... Once you lie down on the sofa - well actually you're not expected to completely lie down - your back should be on one armrest and the legs spread down on the sofa - get it ? Once that happens, your body makes interesting patterns on the sofa coz of your .. er .. weight. Master Rohan likes to call these "bumps". And then presto, he can run his toy cars on these bumps (usually 2 at a time). Some of the things you need to be aware of while the "ippi" takes place :

- usually lasts for an hour or more. So better take a book and read while you're at it. Or have the TV remote handy. Or the newspaper.
- No sleeping or shifting of the body weight or the legs. Rohan does'nt like his bump patterns altered. Capisce ?
- No getting off this thrilling activity without permission from the lord himself. He and only he can decide when you get off. If you dare to disobey, prepare your ears for a deadly assault of cry-o-matics ...

More to come ... watch this (blog) space ....

Mission Statement

Ahem !!

- This blog will contain all what I need to remember of my putar (son)'s doings and undoings ever since he came into our lives (3rd Feb 2002). Meaning this will document any interesting episodes, his baby-talk and so on. I realized that some day in the future I'm going to forget all this stuff - no point watching it on a scratchy video tape - better to describe it in my own words :-))
- This blog can also contain any of his interesting snaps or motion videos - I'm hoping Sony or other biggies will come up with a viblog (short for video blog) - no pun intended with the name sounding similar to a weblog .. he he !!
